Commonwealth Figure Skating Club opens its 73rd season in September and we have some exciting things to share with you about our programs!
Learn to Skate Program USFS Basic Skills Program — 13-week sessions
Commonwealth Figure Skating Club runs the US Figure Skating Association’s Learn to Skate Basic Skills program for all levels of skater, from age four through adult. This season classes will be held on Thursdays at 5:30 pm OR Saturdays at 10:00 am. Each Learn to Skate (LTS) class includes group coaching instruction for the first half of the session. During the second half of the Learn to Skate session, students have the choice of using the ice for free skate/self-guided practice time or they may elect to sign on with a Commonwealth Figure Skating coach for private or semi-private lessons. In addition, our Thursday Learn to Skate class features a new program – Theatre on Ice (TOI).
Theatre on Ice
We are very excited to be offering the area’s only Theatre on Ice Basic Skills program. Theatre on Ice is a track of the US Figure Skating Association designed for the skater who wants to emphasize the performance aspects of figure skating. While learning the basic athletic skills of figure skating, Theatre on Ice participants will also be instructed in the performance art of the sport.
We are fortunate to have on our coaching staff Heidi McDonald, who co-developed the Theatre on Ice curriculum for the US Figure Skating Association. Learn to Skate students who elect to participate in the Theatre on Ice program during the second half of the Thursday Learn to Skate class will have professional staff instruction for the full hour from 5:30-6:30 pm on Thursdays and will be included in a Theatre on Ice group performance in our annual holiday show in December as well as our end of the season Ice Capers show in April, respective of the TOI session which they are enrolled.
